Professional US photographer Kevin Ames starts his lecture at PhotoWorld Asia 2010 with a slideshow of his portfolio of photographs…

…then he regales his audience with entertaining anecdotes of his photographic career, as he leads them into more serious discussions on the importance of good lighting and how to create beautiful photographs. He also spent time on his post processing techniques, in Photoshop, Bridge, Camera Raw and Lightroom. Kevin is an expert in digital imaging, with several books to his name.

The second half of Kevin’s seminar is the fashion photo shoot, where he shares his studio lighting techniques. Here, he embeds a favorite tool, the gray card, at the start of a shoot, with Model Trachelle Santiago, to make sure he gets the correct white balance that gives the right colors.

Kevin shoots Model Amber in this 3rd studio setup of the fashion photo shoot during the PhotoWorld Asia 2010 convention. On Tuesday, Feb 2, Kevin joins top Filipino fashion photographer Raymond Isaac in a location shoot in Taal, Batangas, where traditional, modern and fine art setups will be done in two ancestral homes in the Heritage Town.

Librodo against the backdrop of one his photos as he elucidates on the important elements that go into a good photograph. Text shows all elements according to their importance. The first letters unscramble to form his own name, M-A-N-U-E-L.

On the 2nd day of PWA 2010 convention, top wedding photographer John Tronco describes his workflow going about a wedding photo shoot, describing his preparations before the shoot, his shooting techniques during the wedding ceremony, all through the reception and even beyond. Best of all, John – who is a highly successful wedding photographer – also shared his tips on the business side of things.

FPPF Chairperson Edi Huang addresses convention delegates during the opening of PhotoWorld Asia 2010 at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati. Participants came from all over the Philippines including Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio, the Bicol region, General Santos City, Davao, Palawan, Butuan City, Pangasinan and Metromanila. Delegates also came from other countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. The convention, which comprise the educational series of PhotoWorld Asia 2010 photography trade show, runs until February 1 at the SGV Hall of ACCM.

Senior Consultant John Silva of the National Museum held a very engrossing picture show during the convention, featuring rare antiquarian photographs that depict significant episodes in Philippine history.

At the center of it all is Mrs. Eduviges Y. Huang, Chairperson of the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation. The FPPF holds the photo convention and trade show every year.

The antiquarian photographic exhibits depict significant episodes in the history of the Philippines. Go to the Art Space, 3rd Floor, Glorietta 4 to see the old photographs and a collection of vintage cameras. Admission is free, but be sure not to break anything there.

FPPF Chairperson Edi Huang takes aim at Guimaras’ Smallest Plaza (inset), January 22, 2010. The island of Guimaras was part of the FPPF itinerary to explore the Bacolod-Guimaras-Iloilo area for possible photo destinations for the ASEAN Crossing Bridges program. The FPPF earlier held a one-day seminar in Bacolod and later hooked up with the Photographic Society of Iloilo for the 2010 Dinagyang Festival.

The Guimaras Provincial Museum included displays of religious icons, some dating back to the 17th Century. Photo above shows one of the religious statues on display at the museum.

Veteran photographer George Cabig smiles as he finds some of his old works on display at the Guimaras museum. The two Cabig photographs above (circa 1998) depicted the Balaan nga Pagtaltal, a commemoration of Christ’s suffering, held during the Holy Week in Guimaras, with a real live person there on the cross.

The FPPF team also invaded the serene surroundings of the Trappist monks in Guimaras. Photo above shows one of the monks, Bro. Peter, who gamely posed for the cameras of Lito Beltran (kneeling), Edi Huang (with back to camera), Prof. Joey Tañedo and Maria Macabio.

In Guisi, Guimaras can be found the new light tower amid the ruins of the old one.
