PhotoWorld Asia 2010 formally launched Thursday, January 28, at the Glorietta Activity Center, Ayala Malls in Makati with several distinguished guests in attendance including Tourism Director Cynthia Lazo, Sculptor Ramon Orlina and Classical Pianist Ingrid Santamaria. The photography trade show runs until February 2, 2010. Aside from the main exhibits at the Glorietta Activity Center, there is also another venue at Glorietta 5 where photographs of veteran photojournalist Ed Santiago are on display, as well as the winning photographs from various camera clubs who participated in the PhotoWorld Cup photo contests. There are also more trade exhibits there by various suppliers.

At the center of it all is Mrs. Eduviges Y. Huang, Chairperson of the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation. The FPPF holds the photo convention and trade show every year.

Top US photographer Kevin Ames, left, and phenomenal Filipino photographer Manny Librodo, take a moment to chat at the PhotoWorld exhibits at the Art Space, 3rd Floor Glorietta 4 in Makati. The Art Space exhibits feature old photographs depicting significant events in Philippine history and a rare collection of vintage cameras. Ames and Librodo will share their expertise in the educational seminars of PhotoWorld Asia 2010, organized by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation, FPPF.

One of the old photographs on display at the Art Space is this rare photo of the execution of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, moments before his martyrdom. The antiquarian photographic exhibits depict significant episodes in the history of the Philippines. Go to the Art Space, 3rd Floor, Glorietta 4 to see the old photographs and a collection of vintage cameras. Admission is free, but be sure not to break anything there.
