FPPF Project Director Lito Beltran has announced the launch of a photo competition with P25,000 as top prize. The photo contest, under the auspices of the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF) and the Intramuros Administration (IA), is in celebration of Philippine Heritage Month.
Beltran said the subject of the competition is Intramuros. Entries must contain in part or in whole landmarks or scenes that depict Intramuros. The photos must contain something to suggest the image was taken inside Intramuros. The subject can be people, landscape, ruins – practically anything about Intramuros.
The competition will award the following prizes:
- P25,000 – First Prize
- P15,000 – Second Prize
- P10,000 – Third Prize
Prizes in kind will also be awarded to winners in the 4th to 10th Places.
The photo contest is open to everybody, amateur and professional photographers.
Deadline for submission of entries is on March 28, 2010. Awarding of prizes will be on April 30, 2010.
Entries must be 8” x 10” prints in color, limiting the borders – if any – to 1 inch all around. Digital photo manipulation is not allowed. You can’t clone, use layers, saturate/desaturate, or any or those fancy Photoshop or Lightroom techniques. But you may dodge, burn or crop. Any creative effects must be done in-camera at the time of exposure – flash fill, light painting, use of filters, etc.
To enter the contest, participants must register because you can’t shoot in Intramuros without a permit. Registration for this contest is free. Once registered, you get an ID which serves as your permit to shoot in the premises of Intramuros. Issuance of IDs will start on February 15 and you can get it from the FPPF offices, 302-Annex, FEMII Bldg., A. Soriano St., Intramuros, Manila.
The contest ID and permit do not give you complete access to all of Intramuros. For example, it could give you free entrance to Fort Santiago but you still cannot shoot inside the Rizal Shrine; museum rules apply here. While you can go and shoot around the streets of Intramuros, it does not give you free access to Casa Manila, for example; you still have to follow their house rules.
The contest ID and permit are available from the FPPF offices only at FEMII Bldg., not from the FPPF Art Chambers inside Fort Santiago.
Fine Print: Copyright to the image inherently belongs to the photographer, but the top 30 prints shall become the property of the organizers, with full rights to reproduce, exhibit or publish the images for promotional purposes only. The organizers may, without paying financial compensation to the photographers, display the prints in a public place of publish the prints for the purpose of promoting the organization’s event or any by-product arising from the photo contest. If any of the photos is published or printed for display, the name of the photographer and FPPF shall always be acknowledged.
For more details, please call Mr. Lito Beltran at tells. 524-7576 or 528-0371 or email him at pablobeltran39@gmail.com.

Good Day!
Mr. Beltran I am very much interested on your photo competition, I am a student from Lyceum of the Philippines University. Currently, I took up Basic Photography as part of my academic. I was in your office awhile ago but I think nobody was around.
February 2nd, 2010 at 9:46 pm
I am interested in joining this contest, can i register through this website? thank you very much.
February 4th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
I am a balikbayan from Maryland, USA and visit the Philippines twice a year. I recently attended some sessions of Photoworld Asia 2010. I would like to join the Intramuros photo contest and obtain an ID to take photos there. Can I register by e-mail?
February 5th, 2010 at 9:02 am
Same question, are online registrations accepted?
February 5th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
as of now, there is no online registration for the intramuros shoot. folks who wish to join the photo contest will have to submit an ID photo, or have their ID photo taken, personally sign some paper and receive the permit to shoot within intramuros.
February 6th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
Got it sir Chris, from batch 22. Im interested too to join the contest. Regards.
February 7th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
the email posted above does not exist.
is your office open on weekends (or Saturday) so that i can get my registration and ID for the event? do i have to bring in an ID picture so that i can have my ID processed immediately?
til when will the issuance of IDs be?
will there be a downloadable form so that we can print it ahead and just submit it in your office?
February 8th, 2010 at 7:57 am
typo, JP, my bad. that’s pablobeltran39, not 30. fppf offices are open sat & sun.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

February 10th, 2010 at 10:47 am
good morning and I just want to ask about this contest if we can submit Intramuros pictures taken while on seminar in FPPF with Ms. Cecilia Angeles last Jan.23, 2010.
thank you very much and God bless.
February 10th, 2010 at 11:57 am
@jovienaval: this contest follows OTS (on-the-spot) rules, you may submit entries taken only after you have registered and obtained your ID to shoot, from that day on until march 28th.
February 10th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
I will be attending the Basic Photography workshop starting Feb. 20. Can we also join in this contest? Do I need to register separately for this? Thanks.
February 11th, 2010 at 9:45 am
yes, weng, you can always join the contest. this is for everybody, kahit wala sa workshops namin. pero mas maganda kung alam mo ang basic photography. and yes, you have to register separately for this.
February 11th, 2010 at 10:46 am
Sir, if we are enrolled in FPPF and would like to take photos in intramuros, are we still required to get an id to shoot? (even if we don’t intend to join the contest?…probably just to work on our assignments) Thanks.
February 11th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
thanx so much chris for your immediate answer, cheers.
February 11th, 2010 at 10:22 pm
just would like to ask, how will you be able to tell which images are disqualified to win (i.e. post-processed)? does the winner have to submit the original file (with exif intact) of his winning piece?
February 12th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
james, your FPPF id entitles you to shoot inside fort santiago during your workshop days (aside from the fujifilm print discounts). to shoot around intramuros, you need a permit which ordinarily costs money. the FPPF/Intramuros id allows you to shoot for free for the contest, which is also free. may premyo pang 25K! if you don’t intend to join the contest… (now there’s a big hole!), nobody can really coerce you to submit an entry after being issued an ID – and some people are thinking that too – but officially, we’ll say the ID to shoot around intramuros is only for people who intend to join the contest. OK?
February 12th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
@JP Nieves: we can tell, JP (we’ve been around for a while). if there’s a dispute, we may have to summon the original image file.
February 13th, 2010 at 12:28 am
Thanks Sir Chris.=)
February 14th, 2010 at 7:07 pm
what time is your office going to be open this 20th (saturday)?
me and my friend are planning to go there and sign-up. what do we need to bring to speed up the process of signing up for the contest (ID pics, forms etc)?
February 15th, 2010 at 2:44 am
@JP Nieves: FPPF offices are open 9am to 5pm every day. To register for the Intramuros OTS, bring an ID (i.e. driver’s license) and a 1×1 ID picture.
February 15th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
i already got a permit… thanks…
February 16th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
sir, i am interested on joining the contest but i don’t know where to register. please tell me where to go or give me a link to where i can register. my friends are also up for the challenge so please help us. thank you.
February 16th, 2010 at 11:50 pm
@j.mogol: you have to come to our offices at FPPF, 302-Annex, Aduana St., Intramuros, Manila to register and get your ID to shoot. bring your friends.
February 18th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
Good day Sir… I would like to join the contest, but I’m not a professional, were in intramuros can i register? Is there any requirements needed to pass? I am a student from Emilio Aguinaldo College… yearning to learn all about photography… hoping that i could be a part of this event… thank you Sir…
February 20th, 2010 at 7:59 am
@kinkyfro
As per description above:
“The photo contest is open to everybody, amateur and professional photographers.”
“To enter the contest, participants must register because you can’t shoot in Intramuros without a permit. Registration for this contest is free. Once registered, you get an ID which serves as your permit to shoot in the premises of Intramuros. Hi, how do we submit our entries, what identifying labels are allowed? Do we seal them? Do we send them to the same office?
thanks
February 22nd, 2010 at 6:49 pm
Good day sir!
I would just like to know if its possible to send entries in square format? I generally shoot with medium format cameras and it would be an honor to join this contest. Also, is there a limit on how many enties are sent?
February 25th, 2010 at 8:10 am
Up to how many entries can i submit ?
February 26th, 2010 at 9:13 am
me and my friends are interested to join,
what are the requirements?

February 26th, 2010 at 1:40 pm

March 2nd, 2010 at 9:48 am
So far there is no info on how to actually submit the photos (or how many, for that matter). I could call/email and ask, but I’m sure everyone else would like to know and have that info accessible on this forum
Thanks!
March 2nd, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Hi. I got my ID from friends (FPPF member/s) and didnt fill up any form. Was able to shoot last Saturday.
But reading along the replies, one must fill up a registration form. Does this mean my last Saturday shoot is not valid and i really need to fill up a form?
@gorion. Lastly how many pics can one submit. Its not in the guideline…SALAMAT!
March 3rd, 2010 at 10:49 am
@gorion: there is no limit to the number of entries you can submit. submit your best shots.
@jenny: you can fill out the form later when you submit your prints. important thing is that entries must be shot within the contest period, from feb 15 to march 28, 2010. OTS rules apply. keep your digital file for reference later.
March 4th, 2010 at 7:22 am
Sir, when we register, will we get the id/permit on that day? Because my friends and I are planning on registering and starting our shoot on the same day.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:08 am
yes, pons, you should be able to get your id in the same hour that you apply. bring 1×1 photo id to be affixed to your id/permit.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
good day sir,
what are the criteria for judging.
thanks.
March 7th, 2010 at 8:28 pm
Hi! Just want to ask if I can submit my entries in A4 (210×297 mm) size print? The required print is 8×12 inches (203×304 mm).
Thank you very much.
March 8th, 2010 at 11:40 am
@rayban: we’re sure you can submit your entries in A4, ray, but that would not be the same. let’s just stick with the stated rule: 8×10 inches, not 8×12, not A4. 8×10 inches.
March 9th, 2010 at 5:59 am
How and where do we submit the entries? Can we just send it thru LBC?
March 9th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
Hi again – going back to the question of Tem, how do we submit entries, what label/s do we put (name, email, photo title, place where photo was taken? other properties you want to know? can we put all in one envelope?)
Thanks…
March 9th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
Is healing spots caused by sensor dust allowed?
March 10th, 2010 at 12:57 am
greetings. I was able to register last weekend. But I do have some questions sir. I asked for guidelines on the contest, aside from those already mentioned here on the site. I was given a paper and it’s stated there that the participants are only allowed to take pictures from 7:00am to 6:00pm. The explanation given was because gates are open only at these times. I haven’t really been around Intramuros, so I was wondering if the gates mentioned are for the whole Intramuros or just for specific areas inside, like Fort Santiago. Some of the participants I know would like to take night shots, but with the time given, I supposed we can’t take them.
Also would like to know if image adjustments like levels and curves are also prohibited in post-production. And finally, if in-camera retouching of the images are allowed.
Thank you so much.
March 10th, 2010 at 6:45 am
@wilson: yes, sure, the dust was not in the scene when you took the photo, was it? you may certainly remove it with the spot healing tool. better yet, clean that camera, ok?.
March 10th, 2010 at 6:55 am
@noel: if intramuros has gates that should close at 6pm, they will close. night shots after six are still okay if you can get decent lighting there. hey, if that’s where you get the money shots, go for it.
levels and curves are gray areas. but since we stated that a little dodging and burning are allowed, levels and curves should be too, because they are similar tools. but that’s just me. let’s ask mr. beltran.
in-camera image processing is par for the course. we stated that above.
March 10th, 2010 at 7:03 am
@jenny & everybody: since OTS rules apply here, you personally submit your photos to where you got your permit, i.e., the fppf office at femii. upon submission, a label is attached to your photo(s) where details have been filled out by you. no LBC, john. happy shooting, everyone!
March 10th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Pwede po ba magparegister ng Sunday?
March 10th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
thanks Chris!
March 10th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
@billy: yes, bill, we’re open sundays because we have weekend workshops. come to the office at the femii bldg., not at fort santiago.
March 11th, 2010 at 10:09 am
Hi sir! I am cathy angeles from Cebu, one of your students during the basic and advanced workshop. We are going to Manila on March 21 (sunday) and we want to register for the Intramuros Photo COntest. How do we go about it? Thanks!
March 11th, 2010 at 12:43 pm
Hi,
I am from Cebu and an alumni of FPPF too. I just want to clarify. So no PP should be made and no limit of entries. Just 8×10 prints in a sealed envelope with your name addressed to FPPF.
Lastly, our group from Cebu went to manila Feb.12 and was able to register and shoot the day only since it was the only time we had. Does that mean we are disqualified? Since i read from Sri chris that the shooting period is for feb15 onwards only? but we were already registered and given permit to shoot for the contest.
Let me know since we are already submitting our entries to manila. Hoping for an email from you. Thanks
March 11th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
@paul: if you were given the permit to shoot on feb 12, then those pics are valid. no image manipulation, that’s right. and no limit to entries, 8×10 inches, submit to FPPF, yes.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
then you will be with icky, cathy! nice to see you here in manila! just go to the fppf offices at 302-annex, femii bldg., aduana st., intramuros, manila and ask for karen. you may submit your entries there with her. see you all here!
March 12th, 2010 at 11:59 am
Thank you sir.
March 13th, 2010 at 2:06 am
Lightening and darkening of images and contrast adjustments, are these considered as “not-allowed” digital manipulation?
March 14th, 2010 at 6:09 am
@law malay: you are right, law, that is why we really want to prohibit digital image manipulation altogether. i asked ka lito about levels and contrast and he said no, that is not allowed. pagandahan na lang dapat ng litrato straight from the camera.
March 14th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
Thanks Sir Chris! I think we all have to stick talaga s essence ng on-d-spot. And you’ve said it clear enough “pagandahan na lang dapat ng litrato straight from the camera”.
More power to you and to FPPF!
March 15th, 2010 at 8:25 am
for info to photographers who wish to join the intramuros on-the-spot contest: you may submit your entries personally to the fppf, where you got your IDs, or you may submit them via courier (mail, LBC, messenger, etc.). download the labels/entry forms from this link:
http://photoworldmanila.ipower.com/online_images/Form.doc
and attach a label, duly filled out, at the back of your entries. fill out all info except the entry number. then send your entries to:
Intramuros is Forever
FPPF 302-Annex, FEMII Bldg.
Aduana St., Intramuros, Manila
March 15th, 2010 at 11:18 pm
Hi… me and my friends are very much interested with the said contest… We would like to know if we could let someone pick up our permits (he/she will be bringing the said requirement such as the 1×1 pic an ID)…
Thanks
March 19th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Hi – I’m a member of a photography club in our company. Many of my colleagues would want to join these contest, same question with ’shei’. Would you let someone pick-up the permit for us?
March 20th, 2010 at 9:13 am
@ecelest: yes, you can do that. send your IDs.
March 21st, 2010 at 9:50 am
Hi sir! me and my boyfriend are members of imahe. we are planning to go around intramuros today to take some shots. will it be possible to get two permits for us today? We would really appreciate it! Thank you so much!
March 21st, 2010 at 11:29 pm
@maann: just go straight to the fppf office, maann, and you’ll get your permits.
March 23rd, 2010 at 6:16 pm
ive already printed some of my photoshoots for submission in the contest, just want to ask if it is ok to adjust some settings in the camera like saturation, contrast etc. before the exposure? tenks
March 24th, 2010 at 12:30 am
@aleen: no, please don’t do that. just a little dodging and burning is allowed. saturation and contrast will fall under image manipulation, and we don’t allow that. please take a final picture as much as possible in-camera. and please keep your original digital file, just in case.
March 24th, 2010 at 1:03 pm
Hi Sirs,
i sent my entries via LBC and placed a note there if once received to email or text… Was it recieved?
Also, sir Chris diba pwede adjustments in-camera lahat? Like changing camera profiles for canon systems for example? Tapos dodge/burn and crop lang sa photoshop?
March 24th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
i’ll register tomorrow morning
March 24th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
@paul: will check with secretariat, paul, if they have received your entries via LBC. yes, do all adjustments in camera, then minimal dodge and burn in photoshop. don’t touch levels & curves and saturation.
March 25th, 2010 at 11:16 am
Thanks sir. Hope you got it. sent it 2 days ago…
Yup.only dodge and burn and crop in photoshop.
March 25th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Is the registration still open until tomorrow morning? Will be there before lunch hopefully. May lunch break ba? Haha.
March 26th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
@paul gotiong: it’s here. now, paul. we got your entries via LBC.
March 27th, 2010 at 2:25 am
Sir,
I’m having troubles with my prints. I told the lab to print the pictures as is and came out darker. Can they adjust their printer settings to get the real exposures? or this will be a disqualification?
March 27th, 2010 at 4:25 am
@alex: do it again, alex, and this time brighten your photo a little more; your monitor may just be a bit too bright. also, remember that the monitor glows while the printed picture does not and that could explain the difference in tonality. print again.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:02 am
hi sir chris,
will be sending my entries today to your office at femii bldg via LBC….hope you will be able to get it on time since deadline will be tomorrow na…i wlll just address it to you sir…thanks!

April 24th, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Any update about our contest? thanks.
April 28th, 2010 at 12:23 am
yes sir chris, do u have any updates on the contest?
