Lightroom for Photographers
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has emerged as the de facto workflow software for photographers. This imaging application was designed from the ground up for serious photographers who want a powerful image editing program but is easier to use, to enhance their photos.

Lightroom is for photographers and it’s a lot easier to use. With Lightroom the user enhances his images just by adjusting a few sliders. But while Lightroom is indeed easy to use, it uses language and metaphors not readily understood by a new user. Some Lightroom concepts need some explaining. For instance, LR employs the import-export metaphor for acquiring files and saving images. What are Catalogues? What are Collections? Stacks? Where are my pictures? How does Lightroom develop my images? And how do I use those sliders?
After overcoming the initial confusion, Lightroom is indeed easy to use. The tools are where you want them, readily accessible and very intuitive to use. And they are very effective. With its awesome power, Lightroom equips the photographer with tools that can take his photographs to new levels. Lightroom makes it easy to import, edit, organize, process and share digital images in an integrated work environment. It’s an all-in-one imaging application.
Lightroom’s strength is two-fold:
- It is an excellent database management application – that means you can store and organize volumes of photographs in its environment and find your photo quickly when you need it. This feature is absent from other image applications.
- It is a powerful image editing software – it can do almost all of what Photoshop can do, in a much easier way, and it can easily switch to Photoshop in an integrated way if you need to add text or layers or create graphics like a movie poster. But for photographs, Lightroom is all you need.
The FPPF now offers Lightroom Workshop for Photographers, designed to introduce you to the application, demystify its concepts and lead you into a deeper understanding and use of its many features. The workshop will go in-depth with LR’s Develop module to enable you to develop images on your own. Hands-on demos will guide you what to do every step of the way, to develop great looking photographs. Then save them to catalogs that you can display as portfolios in digital copies or printed albums, present them in slideshows or upload them as Web galleries.
Come to the workshop with your own laptop,Lightroom already installed. Bring your own photographs too, in addition to sample photos in the projects, for customized instructions on how to enhance your favorite pictures. And experience the power of Lightroom!
